When you do need illumination, choose 940 nm, which is completely invisible and imperceptible to pets. Note that pets can perceive the red glow of 850 nm, which may spark curiosity or alertness. For recording, set the device on a fixed position in a corner rather than following your pet by hand, as this captures their true behavior far more faithfully.
